Il-Fatt

About Il-Fatt

A very simple but very popular game that used to be played in the streets of Maltese villages and is now sadly all but redundant, was the game of Il-Fatt.

How to play Il-Fatt

Children would draw two circles on the pavement or road, a smaller circle inside a larger one.  They would then place coins or (if coins were not available) hazelnut shells (with the nut removed and weighed down with lead) in the smaller inner circle.  The object of the game was then to try and knock the coins or hazelnuts out of the inner circle.  The player knocking out the most would be the winner.
